Besancon and his family continued attending the Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church for years. He was found attending a picnic there in 1919, where he was an altar boy.

Alfred F. Besancon Jr. was born on July 11, 1909 in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi. He was the second son of Alfred F. Besancon Sr. and Monica (nee Ladner) Besancon. He had two half siblings and four full siblings: Alice born in 1885, Armand born on May 5, 1889, Antoinette born in 1899, Joseph born on March 19, 1908, Lucille born in 1914, and Genevia born in 1917. Besancon was baptized at the Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church on August 15, 1909.

Besancon only completed his education up to the eighth grade. He was taken out of school for "unknown reasons," despite his siblings' continuance of their education. Nothing is known about what Besancon did after he left school until when he was around thirty years old. He was a private carpenter.
In 1942, he married Gladys Favre Coursey and took in two stepchildren: Shirley Anne and Wallace Coursey. |
